Simon Longman’s bitter comedy is far more than a tale of two lads looking for purpose and a future in the Herefordshire countryside and we think it deserves another trip into London, following a quick visit with Pentabus – the award winning company who first commissioned the play almost 10 years ago for its own community audience.

Paul returns from Uni and meets up with his best friend Snowy and finds not much has changed for either of them. They find a cow in a field who needs their help and suddenly their lives seem to have purpose. But who needs the cow most? – and as their plans to save the life of the cow become increasingly bizarre, observers may wonder if the cow really exists in the corporeal sense at all.
With echoes of the games Martha and George play in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf when creating their mythical ‘son’ and the needs of the two tramps who are waiting for a real or imagined Godot in Beckett’s play – Milked makes us reexamine the need for humans to invest in something or someone outside of our every day preoccupations to find ourselves in the world.
